Moving Our Community and Moving Homes: How MoCo Moving is Making an Impact on The Community
MoCo Moving and Junk Removal was founded in March 2020 amidst the most uncertain days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea stemmed from our co-founders Josh and Ian witnessing the increased desire for MoCo residents to get rid of unwanted items in their homes, which they were bound to through virtual work arrangements and quarantine. What started as a few friends doing Junk Removal in a pickup truck to pay for college slowly grew to a reputable residential and commercial moving & junk removal company with the introduction of our co-owner, Enrique Garcia.
Prior to Enrique joining as an owner in fall of 2020, he had previously spent years working for a reputable moving company. As a result, Enrique stepped in and completely transformed the moving processes on the front end of the company. To this day, Enrique personally trains, staffs, and oversees every job along with our co-founder and co-owner, Josh. Through their collaboration, MoCo Moving has become a trusted mover for a variety of commercial and publicly funded clients, including the U.S. Military and a wide range of businesses & residential communities.
MoCo Moving sought to make an impact on our community from day one by using environmentally friendly disposal methods, such as donating and recycling old items received from our clientele whenever possible. As the company has grown, we’ve gained the opportunity to expand our impact, using our funding to give back to our community in the form of sponsorship, environmental clean up, and assisting impactful non-profits. Here is some of the work that our team has been able to do within our community:
1. Annual Sponsorship of Two Youth Baseball Teams
MoCo Moving has proudly been a Montgomery County Little League (MCLL) Double Sponsor for two years straight (2022 & 2023). As apart of this sponsorship, MoCo Moving donates $1,000.00 per year to the MCLL.
This funding goes towards uniforms, field maintenance, and officiating for our two teams throughout their spring & fall baseball seasons. Our team chooses to partake in this annual donation because we believe in the physical and mental health impact of youth sports on our future leaders. We were founded by baseball players and pledge to continue our support for the MCLL on an annual basis!
2. Montgomery County Adopt a Road Program - Tuckerman Lane (Old Georgetown Road to Rockville Pike)
MoCo Moving has expanded our mission to reduce environmental impact through the Montgomery County Adopt a Road Program. Not only do we donate and recycle all items we receive before dumping them whenever possible, we also sponsor company-wide cleanups of our adopted road.
Six times per year, we pay our team members to pickup and collect trash from the portion of Tuckerman Lane spanning from Old Georgetown Road to Rockville Pike. We’ve not only collected typical household trash, but also environmentally harmful pesticides, chemicals, and even nails & large items that pose a threat to drivers. We promise to uphold the standard of a clean community and keep our roads clean.
3. Wrestling Mat Transportation for Beat The Streets Wrestling D.C.
Beat The Streets Wrestling D.C. (BTS D.C.) is a non-profit organization with the mission of positively altering the life trajectory of K-12 student-athletes in the City of Washington D.C. by giving them access to youth development, mentoring, and wrestling. BTS D.C. has successfully achieved this mission by bringing back city sponsored wrestling to The Washington D.C. Public School system for the first time in 30 years.
Our team has had the honor of assisting Beat The Streets Wrestling and their hardworking organizers with the transportation of their wrestling mats on multiple occasions. We’ve proudly assisted with the setup of high school wrestling practices and the cleanup of The Prep National Championships in 2022.
Our co-owners Josh and Enrique not only were co-captains of the Walter Johnson High School (WJHS) Varsity Wrestling team in the 2018-2019 season, but also co-coached the WJHS Junior Varsity team through the 2022-2023 season. Our crew continuously looks to employ and support wrestlers in our community whenever possible, as we strongly believe in the impact of the sport.
4. Walter Johnson High School Mulch Sale
For the past three years (2021-2023), our team has proudly offered discounted rates to Walter Johnson High School (WJHS) for delivery assistance with their annual mulch sale. The WJHS mulch sale acts as a fundraiser for the school’s clubs, sports, and facilities through the WJHS booster club.
In order to sell a profitable volume of mulch, the WJHS booster club calls in additional assistance for transportation of the bags. Our co-owners and many of our team members not only volunteered as student-athletes during our time in high school at WJHS, but also enjoy contributing to this cause every spring. If you’re looking to mulch your yard this spring, keep an eye out for their signs around the area and put an order in!
